Scholarly and Creative Research in Dance – Dr. Meredith Sims Coker University

Description of Video
This presentation will focus on research in dance both scholarly and creative. A brief explanation of common scholarly research topics as well as my own scholarly research will be presented. Then we will discuss how the creative and artistic process is similar to scholarly research. Finally I will present some of my own creative research with information about the creative process for each work.

Dr. Meredith Sims is Associate Professor of Dance and Dance Program Coordinator at Coker University in Hartsville, South Carolina. Her areas of research include dance education, dance kinesiology, arts integration, and authentic jazz dance. She is the recipient of the 2017 South Carolina Dance Association’s Advocacy Award and the 2018 Palmetto State Arts Education’s Ray Doughty Arts Integration Award for her continued dedication to dance education in all of the state.
